How Do I Fix Android SMS Error 97?

Method #1 – Power Cycle Your Android Device

  3. Now, press the power button and restart your device.

Method #2 – Clear the Cache

  6. Tap the Clear Cache button.
  7. After the cache is cleared, check if the error is still there.

  4. Select Messages.
  5. Go to Storage.

  1. It finally worked when I cleared storage. Clearing cash did not work turning the phone on and off did not work. And it only seemed to happen with one particular person I text

      • Ditto. Texts for only one of my contacts were not sent & I was given error 97. She could text me and calls btwn us were not affected. After I cleared the messages app storage, everything worked fine! (Pixel 4a) Thank you!

  2. #3 worked. My situation was the same as Dusne above: was only getting the error code for one person I text but other texts were going through. I was worried that clearing storage would wipe out old messages or contacts but that didn’t happen. Thanks for the help!

  3. None helped 3 calls to vz tech support who want to do same thing every time I call no help call lg have 2 lg g5 phones they troubleshoot tell me only thing I can do is factory reset have not done yet only as last resort
