But just like anything else, sooner or later, you’ll have to make changes to your details, especially if your bank account or debit or credit card has expired. The good news is that updating your payment information on Zelle isn’t such a complicated process.

Updating Your Information on Zelle

You need a US account from a bank covered by the Zelle network so you can start using the service. International debit cards, deposit accounts, and credit cards are not accepted.

But if you only need to use the mobile app of the service, you have to link a debit card connected to a valid account.

Here are the steps you need to follow if you ever need to change your expired bank account, debit, or credit card details on Zelle:

  1. Open the Zelle app.
  2. Click the gear icon located at the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Choose the Account option.
  4. Select the option for Switch Accounts.
  5. Unlink your bank account to unlink the current card. Add your new account then link its card.

However, please take note that the process is only applicable to the official Zelle app. Expect different instructions if you’re using the app of a credit union or an online banking service to access Zelle.

For cases like this, it’s best to seek assistance from the respective customer support to know how you should go about the process.

Important Details to Include When Changing Bank Account or Credit or Debit Card on Zelle

You should be able to readily use the Zelle service if you have an account with a financial situation that is in partnership with the service. You should also be able to set up your profile almost right away.

But you may need to manually input more details if you will be using the app.

Some of the most important details you should include when changing your expired bank account or card on Zelle include the full name indicated on the card, the number of the card, the card’s date of expiration, and its CVV number located at the back.

Sometimes, Zelle rejects accounts or cards for different reasons. The most obvious and common one is if you stated the wrong information.

It is also possible that you are not qualified for the network. Check if you have a Mastercard or Visa debit card. Make sure you also have a US bank account and a fast funds-enabled debit card.

If you opened your account in a US territory, it’s also important to know that territories including the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam are not supported by the Zelle network. It means that the service will reject cards and bank accounts issued in these areas.

You don’t need to break a sweat when changing expired bank accounts, debit, or credit card details on Zelle. Follow the simple process above and you’re good to go.
