You may have heard of the new streaming outlet on Disney+. Star is a brand new channel included in the six brands that Disney Plus will take to its International market. Since Hulu will be shown in the US, Star will appear as a replacement to Hulu when Disney+ is streaming outside the US.
What is Disney Plus Star?
Disney thinks of Star as a new general entertainment content brand. However, Star is more of a solution formed to give the international market more adult-content. Star includes titles that are specifically for mature viewing as oppose to the kid-centered main Disney Plus platform. You will see movies and shows with mature ratings from 20th Century Studios, Disney Television Studios, 20th Television, and FX.
While Disney has Hulu in the US for adult titles, it cannot be integrated into Disney Plus outside of the US. Star is a way for Disney to bring in a wider range of content to its international market. It will be a part of the list of existing channels in Disney+ such as Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic.
Disney+ Star Release Date and Global Availability
According to Disney, Star will be launched on February 23, 2021, on Disney Plus. It will be available in selected territories but will be appearing in more regions and countries in the future. Disney+ subscribers in Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Singapore on February 23, 2021. The next countries in line will be Eastern Europe, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong.
Unfortunately, if you are in the US, the Star Disney Plus content will not be available to US subscribers. The good thing is, most Star titles are already streaming on Hulu.
Star on Disney Plus Price
Fortunately, having Star on your Disney Plus will not cost anything. It will appear as a default brand alongside Pixar, Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
However, Disney+ will be increasing its subscription cost in the UK during the launch on February 23. The price will move from £5.99 per month to £7.99 monthly and from £59.99 per year to £79.90 yearly. For Australia, the price will also increase from AU$8.99 monthly to AU$11.99 and from AU$89.99 yearly to AU$119.99.

- Denmark — 79.00kr/month or 790.00kr/year
- Euro — 8.99/month or 89.90/year
- New Zealand — $12.99/month or $129.99/year
- Norway — 89.00kr/month or 890.00kr/year
- Singapore — $11.98/month or $119.98/year
- Sweden — 89.00kr/month or 890.00kr/year
- Switzerland — CHF12.90/month or CHF129.00/year
Still, Disney is offering its UK customers a good deal. Active subscribers with subscriptions renewing before August 23 can pay the old price until August 23, 2021. Another easy way to avoid paying the higher price is to subscribe to the yearly plan before the launch.
