Several solutions can help you troubleshoot and fix your USB keyboard device error on Windows 10. It depends on what the cause of the problem is. However, you can try following each method below and check if any of the solutions works for you.

Method #1 – Restart Your Computer

As with any computer or modern gadget issues, restarting your computer can do wonders in eliminating common errors. So, this should be your first line of troubleshooting technique.

  • Shut down your Windows 10 computer. 
  • Remove your USB keyboard from your PC.
  • Now, restart your computer and plug the USB keyboard back in.

Method #2 – Run ChkDsk

  • Launch your Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  • Enter the following: CHKDSK E: /f. If you use a different disk driver location, change the letter E.
  • After the scan is complete, enter the following: sfc /scannow.
  • If there are problems, run the following: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  • Reboot your computer.

Method #3 – Try Using a Different USB Device

It may be a problem with the USB port you are using. To check, unplug your USB keyboard and try to plug in a different USB device on the same port. Now, check if it works. If it does, the issue is not with your USB port.

Method #4 – Update Your Drivers

  • Launch the Device Manager.
  • Go to Keyboards.
  • Right-click on your keyboard device.
  • Select Update.

Method #5 – Turn Off Filter Keys on Windows Settings

  • Navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Click Ease of Access.
  • Select Keyboard.
  • Look for Filter Keys.
  • Toggle the button to Disable.
  • Restart your computer.

Method #6 – Edit your PC Power Management Settings

  • Go to the Device Manager.
  • Select Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Look for your USB keyboard device and right-click on it.
  • Select Properties.
  • Navigate to the Power Management tab.
  • Look for Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power and uncheck the box.
  • Click the Apply button.

Method #7 – Disable Fast Startup

  • Open the Control Panel of your Windows 10 PC.
  • Go to Hardware and Sound.
  • Select Power Options.
  • Click Choose what the power button does.
  • Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Look for Turn on fast startup and uncheck the box.
  • Click Save changes.

Method #8 – Install Available Windows Updates

  • Go to the Settings menu.
  • Select Update & Security.
  • Choose Windows Update.
  • Click Check for Updates.
  • Install available updates.
