If you are fond of sending IMs to your friends, WhatsApp Messenger is one of the most popular platforms you can use today. Not only is it easy to work on and has a reliable connection, but you can also use it for free. You can even use the platform to make audio or video calls with your friends or family members. What’s more, it also allows you to create a backup of your chat messages on your Google Drive using your Android phone.
Unfortunately, some users reported that their WhatsApp messaging app chat backup gets stuck at 100% on Android. A similar issue happens for iPhone users. The backup process is taking longer than expected.
Seeing the 100% progress on your backup offers relief knowing that your chat messages are safe. However, not seeing any sign of being completed for a long time is frustrating and if it keeps on loading, it signifies a problem that needs to be solved.
How to Troubleshoot & Fix WhatsApp Android App Chat Backup Gets Stuck at 100% Issue on Google Drive
Getting your backup progress stuck at 100 or 99 percent on Google Drive can happen to anyone using WhatsApp messenger. The bug can even occur to users of iOS devices when they back up their WhatsApp chat messages on iCloud cloud storage.
You can resolve the error and restore your WhatsApp backup process by following the ways and solutions we listed below.
Method #1 – Check your WiFi Internet Network Connection
The problem may sometimes happen due to your WiFi Internet network signal. Check if you have a reliable Internet connection. If not, it will interfere with the backup progress and cause it to be stuck at 100%.
Refresh your network connection by turning off your router and turning it back on after several minutes. You can also place your Android device near your router.
Method #2 – Perform a Force Stop on your WhatsApp Messenger App
- Launch the Settings menu of your Android device.
- Go to Apps.
- Look for WhatsApp.
- Tap the Force Stop button.
- Now, check your Google Drive if the backup is complete. If not, you can retry the backup process again.
Method #3 – Clear the WhatsApp Cache on Android Phone
- Navigate to the Settings menu of your Android device.
- Tap Apps.
- Select WhatsApp.
- Choose Storage.
- Tap Clear Cache and Clear Data.

- Check if there are available updates.

Method #6 – Turn Off Include Videos Option on your Backup Settings
- Launch WhatsApp on your Android device.
- Open the Settings menu.
- Select Chats.
- Tap Chat Backup.
- Go to the Google Drive settings.
- Look for the Include videos option.
- Toggle the button to Off.
Method #7 – Close Any Running Background Apps
If you have other apps running in the background, you may want to exit it. These background apps may be hogging up memory that you can use for the backup process.
Method #8 – Check your Google Drive Storage
On your browser, go to google.com/settings/storage. If the storage reaches the limit, it may be the reason why your backup gets stuck. You can try to free up some space by deleting unnecessary files stored in your Google Drive.
