Snapchat continues to be one of the biggest instant messaging apps right now. The app is popular among young and old users alike because of its many exciting and interesting features and perks.

Unfortunately, login issues can easily ruin your Snapchat experience. One common problem is when you don’t receive a recovery code for account recovery.

Now, before you panic, it might be of consolation to know that you’re not the only one facing this problem. It means that there are ways for you to get a recovery code so you can access your Snapchat account all over again.

  1. Click your profile icon.
  2. Tap wheel icon. This will take you to the Settings menu.
  3. Choose the option Two-Factor Authentication. If you still haven’t done so, make sure you set up two-factor authentication for your account.
  4. Click Recovery Code.
  5. Select Generate Code.
  6. Proceed to enter your password. This will verify that you’re the one trying to access the account.
  7. Save your new code and make sure you keep it somewhere accessible and safe.

You can print the code for secure storage or save it in an encrypted wallet. While it can be tempting to just email it to yourself, it’s not a wise and recommended thing to do. In the unfortunate event that your email is compromised, the attacker may end up obtaining your two-factor authentication codes.

By keeping the code somewhere safe, you can be sure that you can still log in to your Snapchat account even if you change your phone number, restore your device to its original factory settings, or even lose your device.

You need a recovery code to gain access to your Snapchat account if you have two-factor authentication in place but you lost access to your authentication app, changed your phone number, or lost your phone.

Take note that only the most recent recovery code is going to work when you try to access your Snapchat account. Here’s how to log in to the app using your recovery code:

  1. Launch your Snapchat app.
  2. Type your username and password.
  3. Click Log In.
  4. Enter the recovery code once prompted to do so.

However, if you’re logging in to Snapchat using your recovery code, remember that this will turn off your device’s two-factor authentication automatically. If you prefer to keep your two-factor authentication in place, you can just go back to your account settings to turn it on again.

Also, keep in mind that Snapchat doesn’t provide support for a lost recovery code. You won’t also receive a recovery code or verification code by email. You need account access to generate a recovery code in Snapchat.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to using Snapchat, creating a recovery code as soon as possible is a must if you want to stay safe and keep your account protected. Using the steps above will help you get a recovery code so you don’t have to worry about losing access to your Snapchat account.
