Fixing AT&T TV App Lagging, Buffering, and Freezing Streaming Issues

One of the reasons why your AT&T TV app lags, buffers, freezes, or sometimes completely crashes is due to your Internet connection. You may have interference along the way, or your network is too weak to stream content. Follow each method below one at a time and check if the issue persists before moving on to the next solution.

Method #1 – Restart the AT&T TV App

The first thing you can do is to restart your AT&T TV app. Exit the app and wait for a few seconds. Try to open it again and stream some content to see if it works. If not, proceed to the next method.

Method #2 – Check Your Internet Connection

To stream on AT&T TV, you will need to have a speed of at least 8Mbps. If you have more than three devices, you will need to have at least 24 Mbps. For mobile data, you can stream at 150Kbps to 2.5 Mbps or 2.5 Mbps to 7.5 Mbps for HD quality. Do a speed test of your home network and check if your Internet connection is at par with what AT&T TV requires.

Method #3 – Improve your Connection

If your WiFi signal is weak, you can improve it by placing your router in an elevated place. You can also disconnect other devices connected to your Internet. Another way is to bypass the router and connect directly to your modem using an Ethernet cable.

Method #4 – Power Cycle your Device

  • Turn off the device you are using to stream AT&T TV.
  • Then, unplug your WiFi router.
  • Wait for a few seconds.
  • Plug your router back in to restore Internet connection.
  • Turn on your streamer device again and relaunch the AT&T TV app.
  • Stream a movie or TV show to verify if the issue is fixed.

Method #5 – Connect to a Different Network

If you have another network at home, you can try to connect to it and see if your AT&T TV app can work smoothly and without a problem. If it does, your other home network is the issue.

  1. My AT&T TV app worked fine until a couple weeks ago. Now it takes forever for the app to load up. Scrolling the channels is almost impossible. I have a good wifi bandwidth and speed, plus all the other streaming apps work fine. Something changed with the app. AT&T needs to own up to the problem and fix it soon or I’m moving to another service.

  2. the network isn’t the problem… its AT&T’s app. I have 1GB service and the app freezes, takes forever to load, etc.

  3. I have been dealing with crap service since my anniversary date May 2021. On my DVR there are recorded programs that have no freezing or skipping before May 13th 2021. Coincidently after I was sent new equipment the problems started. Did I get equipment that was SUBPAR and INFERIOR to match the money I’m supposedly saving? This is bull. I’ve spoken to many techs (in a few different countries) and even had one out to my home. Nothing I have done will work. At&t will not send any new “cables” because they said they don’t do that anymore.

    P. S. I shouldn’t have to download anything on my phone to connect with my At&t U-Verse. I mean what did we do before smart phones?…I know, we watched TV and recorded programs with no problem. #SMH a lot!

  4. I connected directly modem to TV with an Ethernet cable, TV continue buffering , I have 1000 mbps internet speed. Tv is buffering just watching att Tv, all other apps work perfectly.

  5. The only time it freezes up is when I’m using the AT&t app if I’m watching One American News outside of the AT&t app that does not freeze so I really think it’s the AT&t app itself as all the equipment is new and upgraded and something’s going on hopefully AT&t will figure it out and not lose a whole bunch of customers
