Video conferencing is gaining popularity these days. With people all over the world working within the comforts of their homes, it is crucial to have access to a reliable video conferencing tool. Google introduced its own video communication service, the Google Meet. It is a replacement for the Google Hangouts, which it was retiring since 2019.

Google Meet offers limited free access to users. It integrates video calls, chat, and team collaboration. You can use it for work meetings, online classes, or video calling your loved ones.

You can use Google Meet anytime and with any computer. But, Google Meet does not have a desktop app. You can access it on their website.

Thankfully, there is a way for you to install Google Meet on your PC or Mac. You can do so by creating a shortcut on your desktop. Before you get started, you have to make sure that you are using the latest version of your Google Chrome browser.

To update your Chrome,

  • Click More at the top right corner of your browser.
  • Select Update Google Chrome.
  • Relaunch your Chrome browser.

Create a Google Meet Desktop Shortcut on Windows 10 or macOS

  1. Open a new tab and go to https://meet.google.com/.
  2. On the top right corner, click the Menu button or the three-dotted icon.
  3. Select More Tools.
  4. Click Create Shortcut.
  5. A new window will open and will ask you to Create a shortcut.
  6. Type Google Meet. Check the Open as a Window box.
  7. Click Create.

Now, you will have a shortcut of Google Meet on your desktop. Each time you click on the shortcut, the Google Meet window will open. You can set a New meeting or enter a code or link to join an existing meeting.

That’s it! Google Meet may not have a dedicated desktop client but you can access it from your computer’s desktop anytime you need it.
