How to Update the Apps on LG Smart TV Device

Smart TVs offer a great deal of entertainment right inside our homes. Access to thousands of movies and shows are now within a few clicks on the button through different streaming service providers. It is possible for you to update the apps on your LG TV. However, before you can update your apps, you first need to update the firmware of your LG smart TV. The reason is for both the app version and your firmware to be compatible. If you already have the latest firmware version for your smart TV, you can immediately download the updates for your apps.

How to Update the Firmware of LG Smart TV

1. First, know the model number of your Smart TV. You can check the user manual or the label at the back of your device.
2. From the Home screen, go to Setup and Support.
3. Look for your TV model and check the available firmware next to it.
4. Click Download and Install.

In some cases, it is not possible to do the above steps, you will need to manually update your TV by saving the new firmware in a USB device.

1. Go to https://www.lg.com/uk/support/software-firmware.
2. Type your TV model number.
3. Choose the firmware that you want to download.
4. Click Download this file.
5. Copy the file to your USB device and plug it in your Smart TV.
6. From the Home screen, go to Setup and Support.
7. Click Install from File and follow the instructions on how to install the firmware.

How to Update Apps on LG Smart TV

Once you have the latest firmware of your LG smart TV, you can update any TV apps.

• Go to the LG Content Store and click on Apps.
• Select All and then go to My Apps.
• Look for the app you want to update.
• Click on the app and install available updates.

You can also click on “Update All” button at the top to update all apps installed on your LG Content Store.

Another way to update the app is when you click on it from the home screen. If an update is available, it will notify you before you can open the app. (See image below)

Enable Automatic Update for Apps and Firmware on LG Smart TV

New models of LG smart TV are designed to automatically update both the firmware and the apps. You can enable it, so you don’t have to manually check if there are available updates and do the installation.

1. To enable the automatic update, go to Settings.
2. Click All Settings and navigate to the General tab.
3. Click About this TV.
4. Look for the Allow Automatic Updates and check to enable.
