Having a second monitor can help you multitask. If you are using two applications at the same, you can maximize your computer screen by using the other monitor as a display for your second application. That way, you can be more efficient in working on your task without compromising the size of your work that appears on the screen.

One option for a second display is an iPad tablet. While it may be smaller compared to your computer screen, it can give you added benefits and not just a secondary monitor. After using your iPad as another screen for your computer tasks, you can take it anywhere with you and use it for other purposes.

Sidecar is a feature on newer Mac computer models that extends their Mac display to their iPads. It is compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina and MacOS 11 Big Sur.

First, you need to connect your iPad to Sidecar. One way is to go to the System Preferences and select Sidecar. Click the Connect to option and select your iPad.

Another way is to go to the Display menu in your Control Center and select iPad. You can also click the AirPlay icon in the menu bar or go to Displays under System Preferences. Make sure that your Mac computer and iPad connect to the same WiFi network and Apple ID.

To use your iPad or iPad Pro as your second monitor, you can drag the application to the edge of the screen until you see the pointer on your iPad tablet. To end your Sidecar sessions, disconnect your iPad from the Display or AirPlay menu. You can also tap the Disconnect button on your iPad.

Since there are no built-in features on Windows that can connect your iPad and use it as your second monitor, you will need to install a third-party app. Check out the list below.

SplashTop – It is subscription-based but with a free screen mirroring mode. You need to have iTunes installed on your Windows 10 PC.

iDisplay – You can connect your Windows 10 PC to your iPad via WiFi or cable connection. However, you will need to purchase the iOS app for your iPad.

Duet Display – Like iDisplay, you need to buy the iOS app for your iPad. You also need to connect your iPad to your Windows PC via USB cable.

Air Display – You can connect your devices via a WiFi connection.
