When you’re in the middle of an intense game on your PS5, the last thing you want is to see error codes like CE-118878-3, CE-118861-5, or CE-118877-2.

Error codes in PlayStation 5 often mean that one of two things might be happening. It’s either there’s an issue with the console itself or something is wrong that affects the PlayStation network as a whole.

But if it’s any consolation, these error codes on PS5 are typically rare. However, this won’t help you if you’re experiencing one right now.

Solutions to Resolve PS5 Gaming Console Error CE-118878-3, CE-118861-5 or CE-118877-2

Here are the things you can do if you’re seeing these PS5 errors.

Reboot Your PS5 Gaming Console

These error codes may also sometimes appear due to temporary glitches with the console. This is when your console freezes and refuses to respond to commands.

If this is the case, you can just reboot your device to refresh all its contents and solve most of the temporary problems.

  • To restart your console, remove its power cable from the power source and switch it off.
  • Wait for 2 to 3 minutes before connecting it to the power source again.
  • Hold down the console button for several seconds to reboot your PS5.
  • Wait until you hear the first beep sound.
  • Check afterward to see if the error code is gone.

Move Your Games to Your External Hard Drive

You can also try transferring your games from your PS5 to an external hard drive. Doing this may help get rid of these error codes.

  1. Connect your console to an external hard drive.
  2. Go to Storage and choose Games and Apps from the menu on the right.
  3. You will see the options Move PS5 Games, Move PS4 Content, and Delete Content on the screen. Choose what you like to move.
  4. Click the button labeled Select All or manually check all the games you plan to transfer.
  5. Click Move after you’ve chosen the games.
  6. A pop-up window will appear. Click OK to proceed with the operation.

Rebuilding the database is a safe built-in function in PS5 and might be able to help solve many error codes, including CE-118878-3, CE-118861-5, or CE-118877.

You should enter the Safe Mode on your PS5 to perform this particular operation. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off your PS5.
  2. Press the Power button for a few seconds. While you’re pressing, you will hear a beep at the start and hear another beep a few seconds later. Remove your hand from the button after the second beep.
  3. Use a USB cable to connect your controller and press the PS button.
  4. You will now enter the Safe Mode. Choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database which is option 5. It begins with scanning the drive and creating a new database of the system’s entire content.

Don’t forget to check the compatibility of the two regions that the PSN and content on the system are related to. A compatibility issue may arise if they’re from different regions, which only means a failed operation.

Seeing error codes CE-118878-3, CE-118861-5, or CE-118877-2 on your PS5 gaming console can easily ruin your gaming experience. Thankfully, there are steps you can take to get rid of them and ensure that you can go back to your game in no time!
