Digital items purchased through the Google Play Store can be refunded given certain circumstances. Unlike any physical products that you arrange to return and get your money back, returning a digital purchase is far more easy and convenient to do.

In this guide, we will discuss how to get your refund on apps, games, and in-app purchases that you bought through the Google Play Store. If you have a change of mind and need a refund, read our guide on how to do it.

How to Get a Refund for Apps or Games on Google Play Store

Apps and games purchased from the Google Play Store are eligible for a refund if you make the request within two hours of purchase. Follow these steps to initiate the refund process:

  • Launch the Google Play Store.
  • On the upper left side, tap the three horizontal lines to open the drop-down menu.
  • Select Account.
  • Now, click on the Purchase History tab.
  • Look for the app that you want to return.
  • Tap the Refund button(Purchases that are not eligible for refund won’t display the button).
  • Select Yes. It will then uninstall the app.
  • Check your email about the refund of your money.
  • Once the process is done, check your Purchase History. It should say Cancelled beside the app.

Take note that there is a two-hour limit on the refund email. If you have not received any email but still within the 48-hour period of your purchase, try to request the refund through your browser. First, sign in to your Google account and go to the Google link to fill up the request form.

How to Request a Refund for Apps and Games Directly to the Developer

However, if you have bought the app after two days, you can still request a refund directly from the app or game developer. Here’s how to do it:

  • Launch the Google Play Store.
  • On the upper left corner, tap the three horizontal lines to open the menu.
  • Select Account.
  • Go to Purchase History.
  • Look for the app that you want to return.
  • Select View.
  • Now, scroll down and look for the Developer Contact.
  • Tap the Email button. A new email window will appear.
  • Type the details of your refund request.

Make sure that you indicate the details of the app and the reason why you are asking for a full refund. It is best to be polite, as it is within the developer’s discretion to grant you to refund or not.

There are times when we need to refund some of our impulse in-app purchases. Google allows us to request for a refund but we must do so using the Google form. Before you fill out the Google form, you have to sign in to your Google account first.

Getting a response to your request is quick, but in some cases, it can take up to 48 hours. See to it that you indicate the details of the in-app purchase and the valid reason for your refund request.

  • Launch the Google Play Store app on your phone or tablet.
  • At the top left portion of your screen, hit the three horizontal lines to open the settings menu.
  • Go to Account and then Purchase History.
  • Find and view the app or game that you want to be refunded.
  • In the bottom section, you will find the option for Developer Contact. Tap the Email button to open your phone’s email client.
  • Enter the full details of your request and why you need a refund.

To cancel a subscription you can do so using this method:

  • On the Google Play Store app, tap the three horizontal lines at the top left of your screen.
  • Select Subscriptions on the menu.
  • Look for the app subscription in question and click Cancel.

It is important to follow this process in canceling your in-app subscription. Simply uninstalling the app or game won’t cancel your current subscriptions.
