There are instances when you need to change host controls, pass it to someone else and you have to leave a Zoom meeting. You may have received an emergency call and have to leave immediately. The good thing about Zoom is that you can assign someone as host in your place so the meeting can continue even after you have left.
How does Host Controls Work in Zoom?
Zoom meetings are created by hosts. Once you are the host, you can create the schedule of the video call and manage your team of meeting participants.
However, there are also other kinds of hosts in Zoom. The Alternative Hosts are users who were assigned by the host to schedule the meeting for them. If the hosts need some assistance during the meeting, they can assign another kind of hosts, a Co-Host.
The Co-host is a helpful person during the video conferencing as he or she will be managing the administrative side once the host starts the meeting. Co-host have a sharing hosting privilege like starting a recording or also talking to the participants. They can also mute the participants.
Still, co-hosts cannot start or schedule a meeting unlike an alternative host.
How to Pass Host Controls in Zoom
When the host decides to leave the meeting and pass the host control, he or she can pass it to a Licensed user or a Free or Basic user. However, the term changes if the host is a Licensed or a Free or Basic user. If the host is a Licensed user, the meeting will still continue for an unlimited time regardless who the new host is. But, if the host is a Free or Basic user, the meeting will be up to 40 minutes only, regardless who the new host is.
