If you experience the same error on your OneNote desktop client or mobile app, there are different reasons why it happens. First, your OneNote is offline, and the contents are not syncing properly with the Microsoft SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business server. You may have logged out of your Microsoft OneNote account. In most cases, you have disconnected from the Internet.

Fortunately, several solutions will help you troubleshoot and solve the OneNote problem regardless of which device you are using to access the app or website. Check out the methods below one at a time. Please note that some solutions are specific to Windows 10 desktop or laptop PC.

Method #1 – Check your Internet Connection

As indicated above, one of the reasons for the OneNote error is your Internet network connection. To fix the problem, make sure you connect your device to a reliable WiFi Internet network. You can also check your home or office network connection signal by doing a speed test. A good way to refresh your Internet connection is to power cycle your device.

  • Turn off your device and unplug your router and modem.
  • Wait for at least 1 minute before plugging them back in.
  • Turn on your device and relaunch the Microsoft OneNote client.
