How to Fix Authy Verification Code Not Work­ing

Using two-factor authentication (2FA) codes gives us peace of mind when it comes to our online logins and passwords. 2FA codes add another layer of protection over our accounts so it is more difficult for hackers to easily decipher and compromise our passwords.

Authy is a free authenticator app from Twilio that generates two-factor authentication codes for your accounts. You can use it on mobile and desktop and many users trust the credibility of the software to secure their logins.

But, what happens when the verification codes you receive are not working? Some users have reported such error and if you are experiencing the same, you can follow the steps below on how to solve the Authy verification code error.

Method #1 – Make Sure Your Date and Time is Sync

Authy uses time as a factor in generating and sending verification codes. These codes are only available in limited time so the software generates it in just a few seconds. But, if the time on your mobile and desktop is not in sync with the software, it may cause some problems with the code.

First, you must verify if the time on your device is the same as the software. You can check it by going to Settings and looking at the Date & time option. Set the right time on your device or you can set the correct time zone.

Method #2 – Verify Your Mobile Number

Is the phone number you are using the one registered to your Authy account. The verification code error may be caused by different phone numbers used. To check your registered phone number, open the Authy app.

  • On the upper right side, click the Gear icon to open Settings.
  • Now, check the mobile number register for the app. Is it the same with the number you are using?
  • Also, check the account ID and email to verify the accuracy of the data.

Method #3 – Clear the Cache Data

Take note that only Android users can clear their cache data.

  • On your Android device, go to Settings.
  • Open Apps and select Manage apps.
  • Look for Authy and click to open.
  • Click Clear data.
  • Choose Clear all data and Clear cache.

Method #4 – Try The Backup Codes

These are codes generated after you have scanned the QR code with the app. If you have saved copied the codes before, try using them to sign in.
