Hiding your phone number in Telegram can prevent other people from knowing that you are using Telegram. You can avoid being contacted using the messaging app, giving you more privacy, just like you wanted.
Unfortunately, Telegram requires your phone number during sign up hence allowing your contact list to access your phone number as well in Telegram when synced. Despite giving only a username, other Telegram users will be able to see your phone number when you add them to your contacts.

Hiding your Phone Number in Telegram for Android and iOS
- Go to the Menu icon.
- Select Settings.
- Next, choose Privacy and Security.
- Click Phone Number.
- Under Who can see my phone number, select Nobody.
- Under Who can find me by my number, select My Contacts.
Clearing your Telegram Contact Cache
Telegram often cache contacts even if you have deleted them. One way to make sure you totally delete a contact and not having that person see your phone number is to clear your cache.
Clearing your Contact Cache in Android
- Go to the Menu icon.
- Choose Settings.
- Click Privacy and Security.
- Look for Delete Synced Contacts and click to initiate process.
Clearing your Contact Cache in iOS
- Go to Settings.
- Choose Privacy and Security.
- Look for Data Settings and click to Open.
- Click Delete Synced Contacts.
Choose the People in your Contacts
Take note that all people in your contacts can see that you are a Telegram users. Sometimes, there are people we do not want to interact with other than in selected media. So, if you do not want that person to see you in Telegram, you can delete his contact.
